Oxytetracycline Injection 20% Presentation


A clear sterile, yellow to amber coloured aqueous solution containing 200 mg/ml Oxytetracycline.


Oxytetracycline Injection 20% Uses


Oxytetracycline Injection 20% is indicated in the treatment and control of disease in cattle, sheep and pigs caused by, or associated with, organisms sensitive to oxytetracycline.

Following the intramuscular injection, effective blood levels are maintained for up to 72 hours in cattle and 48 hours in pigs and sheep.


Dosage and administration about Oxytetracycline Injection 20%

Administer by deep intramuscular injection at the rate of 1 ml per 10 kg bodyweight which is equivalent to 20 mg Oxytetracycline per kg. Normal aseptic precautions should be observed.

The maximum volume at one injection site is 10 ml.

The maximum dose volume for pigs under 10 kg the maximum dose is 1 ml. Because of the sustained blood levels attained at the above dosage rates, one treatment is usually sufficient.

Use of the product should be based on susceptibility testing of the bacteria isolated from the animal. If this is not possible, therapy should be based on local (regional, farm level) epidemiological information about susceptibility of the target bacteria.


Oxytetracycline Injection 20% Contra–indications, warnings, etc.


Not recommended for cats, dogs, horses and donkeys.

The use of the Oxytetracycline Injection 20% during the period of tooth development including late pregnancy may lead to tooth discolouration.

Occasional local reaction of a transient nature may occur at the site of injection.

Prolonged use of anti-infectives may result in superinfection by non-susceptible organisms. Photodermatitis may be observed after treatment with oxytetracycline.


Withdrawal periods

This Oxytetracycline Injection 20% is not for use in animals producing milk for human consumption.

Animals may only be slaughtered for human consumption after last treatment, according to the table below.

Wash hands after use. Avoid contact with the eyes.


Oxytetracycline Injection 20% precautions

Do not store above 25°C. Protect from light.

The product should not be brought into contact with calcium solutions. Do not dilute.

Following withdrawal of the first dose, use the product within 28 days. When the container is broached (opened) for the first time, calculate the discard date and write this in the space provided on the label. A statement of the in-use shelf life of the product is given on the packaging leaflet, from which the discard date may be calculated. Discard unused materials.

Any unused veterinary medicinal product or waste materials derived from such veterinary medicinal products should be disposed of in accordance with local requirements.
